Guided Fishing & Personalized Instruction

Rob Kolakowski has been fly fishing for the past 23 years. He currently teaches casting for people at all levels, teaches beginning fly fishing classes, and provides a guided fishing service for stream trout in western Wisconsin. In 2005 he placed in the top 10 in two events at the American Casting Association National Tournament against some of the world's best casters proving that as a casting instructor he definitely has a lot of knowledge and skills to pass on to his students, even though he will always consider himself a student of the sport. He has pure love for anything and everything fishing related and is is always experimenting and improving on his fishing techniques.

Trout Fishing Basics

Any reason for wanting to learn about trout fishing is a good one.  You can immerse yourself for a lifetime in pursuit of trout and the places they live.  Getting started in the sport can be frustrating at times. Some hands on experience will help to ease your mind.  Learn about the equipment used and how to set it up.  Learn good casting basics and how to go about finding trout and what they eat using a variety of techniques.

Casting Classes

Beginners as well as more advanced casters can learn new casts and solve casting problems. Learn to cast floating, sink-tip, and sinking lines.  As well as shooting heads and monofilament rigs. Learn loop control and ways to deal with wind. Improve your distance and accuracy.  Cast to moving targets that will help in both fresh and saltwater sight fishing.

Guided Fishing

Catch & Release trout fishing in the northern edge of the Driftless Area around River Falls, Wisconsin. The fertile limestone spring creeks support a lot of insect life which the high populations of brown and brook trout feed on.
Tackle, flies, gear, and transportation from River Falls are provided. For a full day outing a simple picnic lunch and bottled water are provided. You are welcome to bring your own lunch and gear. My wader and rain gear selection is somewhat limited. We can fish from early March to the end of September in Wisconsin. Ask me about the options available for winter fishing starting in early January.
